2006–2012 Climate Change Action PlanSectoral actions aimed at reducing or avoiding greenhouse gas emissions in Québec
Actions addressing Québec’s adaptation to climate change
Health and Public SecurityMeasure 21: Set up mechanisms to prevent and mitigate the impact of climate change on public health and security The Government of Québec intends to put mechanisms in place that will both prevent and reduce the impacts of climate change on health and public security. In the field of health, the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) is tasked with the design, development and implementation of three warning and monitoring systems concerning the consequences of climate change on health in Québec. On the issue of civil security, the Ministère de la Sécurité publique (MSP) is aiming to complete studies and work on mitigating the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities that has already begun. A research chair in coastal geosciences has, moreover, been implemented. These actions are all at one point or another in their development cycle.
Measure 21: Consolidate climate, hydric, subterranean water resource and air quality monitoring networks In the context of the 2006-2012 Climate Change Action Plan, the ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs is consolidating its network of climate and air quality monitoring stations in order to adequately quantify current trends and the magnitude of climate change that is already under way as well as their repercussions on air quality and human health. As part of this program, the government annonced on December 7, 2009, an amount of $860,000 to the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) for a joint project of monitoring Québec air quality from a public health standpoint. | ||||
