Park Operations

In 1999, the Government of Québec mandated the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq) to manage the activities and services offered in the parks of southern Québec, and to be in charge of the protection and enhancement of these areas.

As regards the nordic parks created in Nunavik, the mandate to manage activities and services, protection and enhancement was given to the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) in 2002.

For each of the parks in southern Québec, a "harmonization table" has been set up. These advisory structures allow for community participation at the regional level in the development and management of the parks. Apart from Sépaq, municipal groups, tourism associations, environmental groups, the scientific community and regional development agencies are represented at these tables.

In the case of Québec parks in Nunavik, a harmonization committee with the same objectives as the harmonization tables has been set up for each park. Representatives of the municipal councils, land corporations and the Makivik Corporation work in concert on these committees with the KRG and the Ministère.
